Looking at You
Deborah Trent, 2021 · Watercolor on paper
This owl was my first piece exhibited in a gallery. I later gifted it to my son.

Inspiration
Owls have large, forward-facing eyes and excellent depth perception—true binocular vision.
Artistic Process
I continue to enjoy feathering birds with layered color, using a grainer brush to build texture and depth.
- Brushes: Round 2; ¼" grainer.
- Paints: Burnt Sienna, Ivory Black, Van Dyke Brown, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow.
Reflections
When I look at this piece, I’m immediately drawn to the owl’s piercing eyes—and I can’t help wondering: what is it thinking?
