Canadian Goose

Deborah Trent, 2022 · Watercolor on paper

Many geese fly over my home, honking all the way! Their perfect V-formation is a joy to watch—especially when a few birds swap places mid-flight.

Inspiration

When the geese fly low, you can hear the whisper of their wings.

Artistic Process

I paint the subject first, then choose the background. I picked blue because I often see these birds against a clear sky.

  • Brushes: Round (0, 2), ½" fan, ¼" grainer, 1" stroke.
  • Paints: Lunar Black, Titanium White, Yellow Ochre, Manganese Blue Hue.

Reflections

Some Canada Geese remain in Minnesota through the winter, while others still migrate south—much like the human “snowbirds” escaping the cold.
